A Little Hut
I love this idea for a "recycled" calendar by Patricia of A Little Hut. This is offered as a downloadable PDF design which can be cut and customized by adding patterns and fabrics behind the letters.

Laura Varsky
There is a nice doodle-like, spontaneous quality to Laura Varsky's ink and digital illustrations. She's made some very cute gocco prints and buttons with her work.

Gapminder
Gapminder 2006 is a well-designed, informative and engaging tool for getting statistics and information about our world. The information is so fluid and the graphs can lead to comparitive statistics in any number of ways. The floating chunks of information can be seen as a chart or a map, based on the year. The dots symbolise countries and their relative populations and are color coded for continents. On the side is a list of countries that can be rolled over to highlight one in particular amongst the floating dots, if there is information available for that year.
This is a great example of great design for a good cause and makes it so easy to derive social/cultural/economic data in an extremely simple, approachable and coherent manner. I am quite guilty of not being very up to date with my world, partly because I spend so much time looking at pretty things. But this serves me just right. Has this been around a while?
"Gapminder is a non-profit venture for development and provision of free software that visualise human development. This is done in collaboration with universities, UN organisations, public agencies and non-governmental organisations. "

Soolip Calendar
I like the typography and simplicity of this calendar at Soolip. This comes as 12 circles and one little metal cube holder.

SIlk Scarves
I was looking at the silk scarves I dyed blue and green and other colors in between. At the time I made these, I was very excited about dyeing circles.

business cards
I created and printed a few business cards yesterday to share at a couple of events last night. I only had half an hour to make them but I am okay with the way they turned out, atleast for now. On the right are the older business cards which I am not retiring just yet.
I finally made it to Reform School last night to buy the Craft Inc. book and see Meg in person. Reform School does rule and the book is so thorough, beautifully designed and well written. I can't say I have a creative hobby as yet that this would directly relate to but the ideas in the book could be relevant to any sort of freelance business and the interviews are very inspiring.

Free People November Catalog
Free People's November catalog just arrived and the photos make me long for travel. Lhasa and Ladakh have long been no.1 on my travel list. I don't know when that will happen but for now we can look at the pretty photos in the catalog and enjoy the Tibetan and Nepalese inspiration behind the clothes for this season. Look at the colors on that handpainted clock!

The Free People blog has behind the scenes photos and videos of the shoot in India and some of the paintings used as background graphics in the catalog.

Jennifer Davis
I just got an email from Jennifer Davis about her upcoming shows and I had to share the images attached to the email. I saw her work a while ago, probably through another blog and I liked it instantly for the pastel colored whimsical thoughts.

Skin and Threads
The colorful, and slightly edgy, wardrobe staples at Skin and Threads are created using organic and natural fabrics. The clean, soft silhouettes would be great for layering and a little of that orange might be nice with all that gray currently popping up everywhere.

Bungalow Eight
I was pleased to see that the Bungalow Eight site is finally up and brimming with some nice photos of the space. I read bits and pieces about Maithili Ahluwalia's boutique store in several Indian magazines and most recently in Wallpaper. The space was designed by Bijoy Jain and showcases unique treasures collected from local and distant flea markets.

Millicent & Frank
I like the delicately gorgeous things over at Millicent & Frank. The photography too is so calming and really brings out the atmosphere where these simple pieces add just the right bit of design. They also carry some beautiful fabric prints with very nice photography.

The Darjeeling Limited
I was slightly apprehensive about The Darjeeling Limited after reading a few strange reviews but I liked it a lot. I smiled and laughed through most of it. The humor is sometimes so silly. I enjoyed the Art Direction and I could appreciate the details and nuances they picked up locally like the simple cardboard bound notebooks and cough syrup with dropper and so many such details. And yes, visually it is quite the treat. I was so pumped up and bursting with ideas after the movie but then I went to sleep and woke up the next day with nothing!
The Art Direction and Set Decoration is by Aradhana Seth, who happens to be the sister of Vikram Seth, an all-time favorite author of mine.
